Marshall, Texas – Looking to keep the momentum from yesterday's doubleheader sweep, Central Baptist College baseball was back at Airport Park this afternoon looking for a sweep of the Wiley University Wildcats. CBC (9-5) completed the sweep, winning game one 8-2 before taking the finale 12-5.
Dr. Aaron Brister reached milestones in each game of the doubleheader. He earned his 450th win as a head coach with the victory in game one and earned his 300th win at the helm of CBC with the win in game two.
GAME THREE – CBC 8, WILEY 2
The Mustangs jumped on the Wildcats in the first inning for four runs courtesy of an RBI single by Cade McBride and a three-run home run from Rolando Rodriguez, his third of the season, making it 4-0 before Wiley even came to bat. The Wildcats would cut the lead in half in the fourth, scoring twice to make it 4-2. CBC extended the lead to 5-2 in the fourth via a passed ball and tallied their final three runs in the seventh and final inning via another passed ball and a two-run double by McBride. Gram Middleton started and earned the win, allowing just two runs on five hits in five innings with 10 Ks for his second career 10+ K start. Julio Escobar got his second save, throwing the final two innings and allowing just a hit while striking out two.
GAME FOUR – CBC 12, WILEY 5
The Mustangs scored in the first inning again in game two, taking a 1-0 lead on a triple by Chett McDaniel. An Austin Teal RBI single in the second made it 2-0 before Wiley cut it to 2-1 in the bottom half. CBC then scored five in the fifth to make it 7-1 thanks to an error, another RBI single by Teal, an RBI groundout by McBride and RBI single by McBride. The Mustangs made it 10-1 in the fifth on an RBI groundout by Teal and an error that scored two. Wiley managed to push four runs across in the fifth to slice the lead in half, but the Mustangs scored their final two runs in the fifth on a double by Kevin Gutierrez and a single by Jaxon Kirkhuff. Dylan Parton earned his second win of the season by going four-and-a-third while allowing three runs on six hits with six strikeouts. Christian Zincke, Mason Sellars and McBride combined to get the final eight outs, allowing two runs on two hits with two strikeouts over two-and-two-thirds.
UP NEXT
CBC will return to Burns Park on Friday afternoon when they play the first two games of a four-game set against Mission University. First pitch for the first day doubleheader is slated for noon.
