Waxahachie, Texas – Looking to salvage a game from this weekend, Central Baptist College baseball took on the Lions of Southwestern Assemblies of God University this afternoon at the SAGU Athletic Complex. CBC (5-4) trailed the whole day and couldn't complete the comeback, falling 8-4 to SAGU (9-4).
SAGU struck first, scoring a single run in the first to lead 1-0. The Lions would add five in the third and lead 6-0 after three. CBC broke through in the fifth, plating three runs in the inning. Jaxon Kirkhuff doubled home two to start the scoring and an error by the third baseman for SAGU cut the deficit to 6-3. A sac fly by Kirkhuff in the sixth made it 6-4 before SAGU added two in the bottom half to make it 8-4, the only runs charged to reliever Jackson Pope, who struck out a career-high nine in five innings of relief.
CBC heads back to Texas on Tuesday for a single, nine-inning contest against the Eagles of Texas A&M-Texarkana. First pitch from Dobson Field that afternoon is scheduled for 2 p.m.
