Mustangs Split With Champion Christian

            Conway, Ark. – Central Baptist College had a busy weekend of athletics last weekend with winter and spring sports crossing over for the first time. Wrestling competed at the Cumberland Open in Tennessee, baseball opened their season on Friday with a doubleheader against Champion Christian in Bryant and softball opened the season in Louisiana and the Louisiana Christian Play Day against Dillard and Arlington Baptist.

            The Mustang baseball team was on the field for the first time this season on Friday at Bishop Field in  Bryant for a doubleheader against the Champion Christian Tigers. CBC split the doubleheader, taking game one 10-2 before dropping game two 1-0. In game one, CBC scored three in the fourth, four in the fifth and three in the sixth for all their scoring. Jacori Hicks came off the bench and when 2-3 with a home run and five RBIs in the game and Josh Albat threw a gem on the mound, earning the win with four innings of one hit baseball, striking out six and allowing just two unearned runs. Julio Escobar got the save in game one, pitching the final three innings and allowing just three walks while striking out three. In the second game, CBC only mustered a pair of extra base hits, both off the bat of Ryan Dauphinee. Gram Middleton was good in his four innings, allowing just three hits and a walk while striking out four. Jaxon Kirkhuff allowed the only run in two innings of relief on just three hits with three Ks for the unfortunate loss. Tuesday's game against Philander Smith has been cancelled, so the Mustangs will return to the field this weekend in Flower Mound, Texas, at the Dallas Christian Classic. CBC will play Dallas Christian and Texas College on Friday and then turn around and play the same two teams on Saturday. First pitch both days is at 9:30 a.m.
