Baseball Season Comes To An End In AMC Semifinals

Erik Holth, CBC Sports Information Director

O'Fallon, Mo. – Looking to make an improbable run into the American Midwest Conference Tournament championship series, Central Baptist College baseball had to stave off elimination twice today at CarShield Field, first against Lyon then against Missouri Baptist. CBC (25-28) got the job done against Lyon (20-25), scoring double-digit runs and winning 10-3 before falling to #8 Missouri Baptist (42-6) 14-2 to see their season come to an end.

GAME FIVE – CBC 10, LYON 3

Lyon got on the board first with a home run to lead 1-0 after one before the Mustangs took the lead in the second. Gage Harris plated the first run for the Mustangs with a double and Steven Stewart followed Harris with a double of his own to make it 2-1. Lyon would tie the game in the third before an RBI groundout by Nick Aide in the fifth made it 3-2 CBC. Lyon had an answer again, tying the game at three in the sixth. CBC would blow the game open in the seventh, scoring six runs to take a 9-3 lead after seven. Aide started the scoring with a two-run double to make it 5-3 then Cameron Harden notched a pinch hit single to make it 6-3. Ruben Hernandez followed that with a single and Luke McBride plated two with a single to make it 9-3 after seven. Gabe Walker's ninth home run of the season in the eighth wrapped up the scoring.

Rhett James was brilliant in his winning start, throwing six innings and allowing nine hits and three runs with a walk and two strikeouts. Ben Slate picked up his second save with three scoreless innings, allowing just three hits with a pair of walks and three Ks.

GAME SIX – MISSOURI BAPTIST 14, CBC 2 (SEVEN INNINGS)

Missouri Baptist scored one in the first, four in the second, three in the fourth, one in the sixth and five in the seventh to leave no doubt and go to the AMC Championship game. CBC's lone runs came on a two-run home run by Aide in the fifth inning for his fifth home run of the season. CBC unofficially finishes in third place in the AMC Tournament, their best finish since winning the title in 2016.
