Conway, Ark. – Playing outside of the American Midwest Conference for the final time this season, Central Baptist College baseball hosted the Eagles of Texas A&M-Texarkana today at Victory Field. CBC (17-24) picked up a run early and used great pitching and defense to shut out TAMUT (21-19) 6-0.
A.J. Serrano got the scoring started in the second inning with an RBI single up the middle to make it 1-0. A home run from Nick Aide in the fifth, his third of the season, made it 2-0 and a home run from Cey Barkume, also his third, made it 3-0 in the sixth. Kyle Bass would also drive in a run in the sixth with an RBI groundout to make it 4-0. Bass would record his second RBI of the game on a single in the eighth to make it 5-0 and Steven Stewart would round out the scoring in the eighth with an RBI single of his own. Austin LeJeune and Jackson Pope combined on a seven-hit shutout with LeJeune going the first seven innings and allowing five hits with a walk and six strikeouts. Pope pitched the final two innings and allowed two hits with a walk and a strikeout.
The Mustangs are on the road for the final time in the AMC this weekend when they head to St. Louis to take on Harris-Stowe State. First pitch on Friday is tentatively scheduled for noon.
