Baseball Splits Doubleheader With Hannibal

            Hannibal, Mo. – Playing on the road for the second straight weekend, Central Baptist College baseball was at Nichols Field today for an American Midwest Conference doubleheader with the Trojans of Hannibal-LaGrange University. CBC (16-20, 4-7 AMC) split the doubleheader with HLGU (2-23, 1-10 AMC), dropping game one 4-3 before run-ruling the Trojans in game two 14-0.

GAME ONE – HLGU 4, CBC 3

            HLGU did all of their scoring in the first two innings and lead 4-0 after two. CBC started to chip away in the fifth when Nick Aide singled to bring in a run which was followed immediately by a groundout off the bat of Steven Stewart to make it 4-2 after five. Cey Barkume doubled home a run in the sixth to make it 4-3 and set up some drama in the seventh. With one our in the inning, Aide single and moved to second on an infield single by Stewart. Gage Harris then came on as a pinch runner, but the final two Mustangs were retired, ending the game. Austin LeJeune threw two perfect innings of relief to end the game, striking out two in his appearance.

GAME TWO – CBC 14, HLGU 0 (SEVEN INNINGS)

            CBC put game two away early, scoring twice in the first on a Gabe Walker double, his first of a record-tying three on the afternoon, and a single by Austin Teal. In the third, CBC tacked on five more to make it 7-0 courtesy of a two-run single by Jaxon Kirkhuff, an infield single by Luke McBride and a two run double by Aide. The Mustangs would add five more in the fourth on a single by Barkume, a steal of home by Teal, an RBI single from Kyle Bass, a sac fly from Harris and an RBI single by Stewart to make 12-0 after four. CBC finished the scoring in the sixth with two runs thanks to an RBI single by McBride and a sac fly from Walker. Jackson Pope was dominant in his second start of the season, throwing a complete game one hitter with six strikeouts.

            The Mustangs and the Trojans meet in the rubber match tomorrow with first pitch scheduled for noon.
