North Little Rock, Ark. – Playing an American Midwest Conference opponent at home for the first time this season, Central Baptist College baseball hosted the Scots of Lyon College at DeSalvo Memorial Stadium this afternoon in a doubleheader. CBC (14-15, 3-2 AMC) split the day, losing game one before winning game two in walk-off fashion over LC (9-12, 4-1 AMC).
GAME ONE – LYON 6, CBC 2 (SEVEN INNINGS)
Lyon jumped on CBC quickly in game one, scoring three in the first and one in the second to lead 4-0 after two. The Mustangs made it 4-2 in the fifth courtesy of RBI singles from Nick Aide and A.J. Serrano. Lyon would add two more in the seventh inning to put the game out of reach.
GAME TWO – CBC 6, LYON 5
Lyon got on the board first in game two as well, plating a run in the top of the second to lead 1-0. CBC, however, took the lead in the bottom of the second thanks to RBI singles from Ruben Hernandez and Luke McBride. The Mustangs tacked on three more in the third to make 5-1 as A.J. Serrano and Cey Barkume sandwiched sac flies around an RBI single by Austin Teal. Lyon chipped away, scoring a single tally in the fifth, two in the seventh and one in the eighth to tie the game at five and set up drama in the bottom of the ninth. Hernandez led off the inning with a double and was lifted for pinch runner Gage Harris. Following a ground out, Harris would advance to third on a wild pitch and then McBride hit a ball to shortstop that Harris beat on the throw home and CBC earned their 34th walk-off win in program history. Gram Middleton started and dominated for six innings, scattering seven hits and three runs with a pair of walks and nine strikeouts. Jackson Pope pitched two innings and allowed four hits and two runs with a pair of strikeouts. Mason Sellers got the win in relief, pitching a perfect top of the ninth, striking out two in the process.
