Walnut Ridge, Ark. – Opening American Midwest Conference play this afternoon, Central Baptist College baseball was at Shell Field for a doubleheader against the Eagles of Williams Baptist University. CBC (12-12, 1-1 AMC), split the first two games of the three-game series, falling in game one before winning game two.
GAME ONE – WILLIAMS BAPTIST 10, CBC 0 (FINAL – 7 INNINGS)
The Eagles scored four in the first, three in the second, one in the fifth and two in the sixth for all of their scoring. CBC mustered only three hits in the contest, off the bats of Nick Aide, Jaxon Kirkhuff and Benito Martinez. Ben Slate moved into third on the all-time appearances list, making his 49th appearance to get the final out of the third inning.
GAME TWO – CBC 17, WBU 4 (FINAL – 7 INNINGS)
The offense exploded for CBC in game two, pounding out 17 runs on 22 hits to run rule the Eagles. CBC scored one in the first, five in the fifth, one in the third, one in the fourth, three in the fifth, four in the sixth and two in the seventh. Every starter had at least one hit and seven players had at least two hits. Luke McBride had a big day, becoming only the 12th player in program history with a five hit game while Gabe Walker had four hits and recorded his first multi-homer game, giving him six total on the season and making him just the 14th player in program history with 10 or more total bases in a game. Nick Aide also homered for the third time this season during the contest as the 22 hits are now tied for the third most in a single game in program history. Gram Middleton earned win number two, going six-and-one-third innings and allowing eight hits and four runs (one earned) with two walks and a season-high nine Ks. Mason Sellers got the final two outs, recording one strikeout and walking a batter in his relief appearance.
