Baseball Splits Doubleheader With Kansas Christian

Erik Holth, CBC Sports Information Director

North Little Rock, Ark. – Playing at Burns Park for the first time this season, Central Baptist College baseball was at home this afternoon hosting a doubleheader against the Falcons of Kansas Christian College. CBC (3-5) split the doubleheader, winning game one 6-4 before losing game two 5-3.

GAME ONE – CBC 6, KCC 4

The Mustangs got on the board quickly in game one. Following back-to-back one out walks to Steven Stewart and Ruben Hernandez, Gabe Walker blasted his second home run of the season, a three-run shot, to put CBC ahead 3-0 after one. The Mustangs would plate two more in the second, courtesy of a double by Luke McBride and an error on an attempted pickoff that allowed Austin Teal to cross the plate to make it 5-0. Starter Austin LeJeune got into a little trouble in the fourth inning, allowing KCC to cut the lead to one at 5-4 but Jaxon Kirkhuff provided some insurance in the fourth with his first home run in a Mustang uniform, a solo shot that ended the scoring for the game. LeJeune got the win, allowing four runs on eight hits in five innings with only one walk and four strikeouts. Jackson Pope finished the game, throwing two hitless innings, allowing just one walk while striking out three to earn the save.

GAME TWO – KCC 5, CBC 3

Kansas Christian jumped on top early, scoring three runs in the second to take a 3-0 lead. It remained that way until the fifth, when the Falcons pushed across another run to make it 4-0 before CBC began to chip away. McBride brought in a run with a sac fly to make it 4-1 in the fifth and Cey Barkume drove in a run with a single in the sixth to make it 4-2. KCC would add a run in the seventh to make it 5-2 before Kirkhuff's second home run of the day, a solo shot to lead off the seventh, made it 5-3. Teal would then single with one out and Steven Stewart drew a walk to put two on with only one out for Ruben Hernandez, who grounded into a double play to end the game. Gram Middleton started and got the loss, allowing three runs on two hits with four walks and four strikeouts in four innings. Ben Slate allowed a run and struck out a batter in one inning of work. Fredrick Marsh walked one and allowed nothing else in his lone inning of work and Jackson Lindsey allowed a run on two hits with a walk and two Ks in his one inning of work.
